For several years now the Workgroup
on Solidarity Socio-Economy (WSSE)
has been working within the Alliance
and elsewhere for a more responsible, plural
and united economy in the context of current
globalization that, in addition to the social
inequalities and ecological damage it produces,
also raises many questions about long term
economic sustainability. The WSSE is a network
of several hundred actors that links together
and coordinates different workshops which
discuss and take action on various themes
and solidarity economy practices as varied
as fair trade, solidarity finance, social
money, women’s place in the economy,
ecological debt and indicators of wealth.
As part of this process, the WSSE will be
taking part in the 3rd
International Meeting on the Globalisation
of Solidarity: Empowering People, which
is taking place in Dakar,
Senegal from 22-26
November 2005. Around 30
WSSE participants will be taking part,
either organizing seminars or as plain participants.
But Dakar 2005 is also going to see a
meeting of the WSSE itself.
From 19 to 21 November 2005,
the WSSE is organizing a cross-cutting seminar
in Dakar, Senegal, as a platform for presenting
the results of several WSSE workshops. There
will also be a cross-cutting debate with
the aim of identifying a shared vision of
current socio-economic challenges and outlining
possible responses. To get the best results
out of this work, the Dakar seminar is organized
around three stages:
